Server & PC Repair or Upgrade

Here is an interesting fact

Every-time you switch-on your computer it does exactly the same thing it did the very first time you switched it on! - Even if that was 10 years ago.

And did you know – when a computer is not doing anything, when it’s not being used – it’s 100% busy – a computer can't just do nothing!

Why is that important – well to me it just shows that it doesn't take much to make a computer go wrong and knowing that makes me think how incredible a computer is.

A computer running Windows (Whatever ‘Flavour’) can be very difficult to keep in tip-top shape, there are always things going on that seem intent on slowing everything down.

Programs you install, existing programs going rogue, numerous scheduled tasks, downloads, old age, slow processors or not enough memory. These can all slowdown your PC and infections from Virus, spyware and malware that can happen over time all contribute until one day you say to yourself – 'Why is it that I click my outlook email icon and I can go to the kitchen, fill-up the kettle, boil-it make a cup of tea and get back to my desk just in time for outlook to start working'.

Why is this happening?

This is typical of stories we hear all the time with new clients and while that may be a little extreme, I bet it’s not too dissimilar from stories floating around your offices.

So.... Why is this happening? –

For many reasons.

As an IT consultant and practicing IT Nerd (professional) Years ago I would routinely re-install my Windows XP operating system about every 6 months. With Windows 7, 8 and 10 these problems still exist but they do manage themselves a little better, however these operating systems still have their problems as do Windows Server operating Systems.

You may also have faulty or failing parts in your PC or Server – Broken MIRROR or RAID arrays on servers, Drives with SMART errors, none functioning soundcards, microphones not working, missing drivers, memory upgrades required, malfunctioning CD/DVD drives and many other potential issues.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP?

There are many options open to you when it comes to Server / PC repairs and upgrades.

There does however come a point where as an independent IT company and consultancy firm we have to ask you to consider if - What you are doing, investing money in repairing an old PC base unit or old server is the right thing.

Over the years PC and server base units have come down so much in price and their processing power has increased so much that even re-installing an operating system in a very old PC is not going to improve its performance that much. Yes it will help, but we ask you to consider that re-installing and configuring Windows will cost ‘X’ and at the end of it you will still be left with a PC that's years old and has the processing power of a years old PC – where-as that money you just invested in that old PC would go very nicely towards a brand new base unit that would run and function 10 times better than the old one.

Please also bear in mind, that unlike these big brand companies you DO NOT NEED TO BUY A WHOLE PC – if your monitor, keyboard and mouse work then just buy a Base Unit!
